The only ones I've ever seen in Comets and Mavericks are the aftermarket ones. I can't stand the looks of the aftermarket cruise controll units just sitting on the turn signal stalk, so the only cruise controll I have on my Comet is my right foot! But then again, I have a Cadillac Deville 60 Series and a F-150 for road trips so I don't need one in the Comet. -Scott H.
I never heard of one for a Maverick either. So, if not for a cruise control, what would this have been used for? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0560806732&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I cant get ebay pic on my phone,, From what I see it is a sensor they had to knock timing out and allow engine to burn more of the gas. it sensed this to 30 mph, not positive on excact mph. Been a while but it was discussed here. I can get more info if you want it Barry
That is the speed sensor for the electronic spark delay used in California for some years. My 72 had it before I converted to EFI.
I was wondering if it is a magnetic sensor and if it could be adapted for use with a cruise control. I have an old, never installed, still in the box, cruise control from the 70's that uses magnets attached to the drive shaft to sense speed. I was thinking if this cable has a magnetic sensor I might just be able to that as a speed sensor for a cleaner installation.
Here is a description of what it does. http://www.1bad6t.com/Maverick/repair/emission_controls_03.html
This looks like the same thing minus the short cable and it says its for a cruise control in a Galaxie. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400181110079&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT
Theoretically, it should work. It's just an AC generator. It really depends on the amplitude and frequency required to operate your control unit but most systems just sense the frequency when you push the set button and try to maintain that frequency by modulating the throttle control. I'd say try it. It would be a lot cleaner install than the driveshaft route. The speedo cable on mine I believe is different but it may plug in regardless.
