Really need help from you guys on this one. ive been working on my comet/maverick for 3 years now, finally got her inspected and in good driving condition. Should i look to sell her or keep? My dad is saying to keep moving up the line to funner cars and learn more about others. But im thinking about keeping it and storeing it. I started when i was 15 so there is a lot of sentimental conection to it. But i also found a 75 Jeep wagoneer that would be fun to build and could use the money? Everyone i talk to regret selling their first car! What would you guys recomend? Thanks in advance ive been thinking about this for weeks now..

I say keep it. These cars are easy to upgrade and fun to work on. You won't have to spend a ton of money to have a reliable car that's gaining more respect every day. Plus this site makes it an even better experience.:2cents:

Keep it. Its not worth much to sell and you will regret it. I still have my first 2 (73 mav, 70 F100), but really regret selling my second 2 cars (70 Mav, 54 Willys CJ-3B). Really one car isnt any more fun than the next when it comes to working on them so I dont get where your dad is coming from with that. Plus if you keep fixing and selling cars like he says and moving up the line (whatever that means) you will just be losing money everytime.

If you want an idea of how to keep the car interesting check out Joe Dirts project thread. He changes his setup once a year to keep it interesting.

I would keep it, these older cars and trucks are getting rare with the scrap metal prices so high! I have not had time to work on mine lately, but it is paid for and will be there when I get back to it.

Do you have a dry, secure place to keep it or money to rent storage? Can you do the next project without the money you'd get by selling the first one? If you can store it and take on the new project, keep it. :thumbs2: If not, go with the one want more. Gotta be realistic. Sorry.

Most of us just don't have the resources to keep all the interesting cars we've owned. We all wish we now could have cars from the past. But, there's no way I could have maintained mine thru school, starting a household, having kids, ...

Your dad just might be giving you wise advice. Most people can't keep up extra hobby cars. Owning hobby cars you can't afford is no way to go. You'll miss out on more important things. And, my first car is NOT one of the ones I miss the most.

If your having second thoughts now, sell it or trade it for whatever you can get. If you were really happy with the car, there would be no way you'd consider getting rid of it...

I have had a lot of vehicles over the years and the one I had the most "sentimental" attachment to is the one I miss the least. I drug that GTO around for 20 years and was actually relieved when I sold it. Of all the junk I've had there are only two stand outs that I would love to have back. One is the 72 Blazer I had, it's not that particular one but the full removable top and the low stance. The other is the 70 Torino Type N/W and only because of the fact that it truly was a rare car with only 395 produced. You're young, there is plenty of opportunity to own a number of cars think it through and do what you think is right.
