I am 24 years old and the proud new owner of a 1973 Comet LDO. It is in pretty good condition, no rust and runs good. I am new to Comets/Mavricks ... and well forums for that matter. I want to start to restore my Comet right away but of course I am on a budget. It had a vinyl top, which I have removed, sanded, the roof and painted with primer. It has most of the original parts...even the keys. But of course it does need some help. This is my first restoration and I am just not sure where to start. What do I do first? Engine? Paint? Interior? Just kinda overwhelmed. And then for my next issue...i have been searching for parts and am not having much luck. I am missing a painted hubcap, passenger rear quarter panel trim, vinyl top, dash pad, etc. Where do I go? I know I am asking alot...any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's some pics.

Don't leave the top just primer for long, primer isn't a sealer, it'll start to rust if it's out in the rain..
First, just get all the bugs sorted out, get the car driving nice, then see what direction you want to go. Enjoy the car a bit, before you tear into it.

:Welcome:to the board.... I did the same thing to my 73 LDO Comet. Took off the vinyl top & painted it. I did the engine & interior first. The last thing I did was paint the exterior. I also did my own little changes to be different. Good luck & have fun...

Congradulations, looks like a great start, just do some research on here or on the MCG board ( fordmaverick.com ) and dont hesitate to ask questions, I'd start by really looking the car over hard, check for rust everywhere like cowls, floor pans ,trunk then mechanicals, of course it all depends on what your going to do with it, street car, race car etc.

Its going to be a street car only racing wh@n I shouldn't. So I still want it to be fast. I already have a 4 barrel Carb and manifold. I'm just collecting parts.

    I like the color.
Like mentioned, read up on stuff in here first before tearing into it. Learn about what you got there or you could waste time doing something you didn't realize was a bigger project. The headliner for instance. The glass needs to come out to do it properly. .. Have fun with it

Nice Comet! and welcome to the board.

As far as the original keys go .... eventually those will wear out. I did that with my last daily driver. Fortunately I had a copy made early on ... needed it about 7 years later. I would make copies now while they are still good, and use those, saving the originals for show days, etc.

You can still get original Ford key blanks on eBay. Shouldn't be hard to find someone to cut new ones for you.
