Which model had the most power. Ive seen this engin option on WIKI and would like to know which model came stock with it "302 cid V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor producing 210 hp (160 kW)." cause some came with a 302 but much lower HP for some strange reason... eg "302 cid V8 at 138 hp (103 kW)." I had a 75 Maverick a long while back and I'm now looking to get one of the awesome cars.
The 69-70 would have been the 210 hp rating (BHP= Brake Horse Power, rated at the flywheel). In 1972 Ford changed the method of rating hp to SAE net which accounted for some of the loss, the rest of the loss that year was from retarding the cam timing and a change in the compression ratio from the 9 to 1 range to 8 to 1. That feat was accompished with a change in pistons.
Actually the only year that is rated with the 210 HP is the 1971. That is the first year of the 302 and as baddad said the last year of the BHP rating. Really most of these motors had similar power ratings across the years, the later models being drug down in power by more and more IM add-ons.
oh yea well me mercury boss 302 has more power than your ford 302 theres one in every crowd........im that one
They didnt put 302's in mavericks till 71. Thats also the reason the 69-70 mavericks have smaller transmission tunnels then the rest of the years.
That's what I figured, but the MRM doesn't differentiate the different models in the HP/TQ specs. Just a list for whatever "intermediate models" Mavs would fall under that heading if they had V8's those years.
