took 3 bolts to remove the alternator, really simple. belt had to come off and I disconnected the wires from the alt as well of course.

this is the alt that came out, when we installed it we had to grind this part down so I wanted to keep the case. an alternator shop is rebuilding it so I'll pick it up this week I hope. I ordered a new one from amazon that arrived today thinking I would replace it but problem was that it's the wrong one, so it's going back.

Nice....looks like the same 130 amp one, that my Ford Expedition uses.

Aren't you a little sore to be doing all this work now?

haha, holding up ok so far. I am borrowing bryant's shop truck and I really don't like the maverick sitting for too long so want to get it on the road asap.

I've never rebuilt an alternator, wish I did it this time around, the shop we took it to hasn't been able to work on it yet. The maverick been sitting for a days. Bryant's shop partner was nice to let me borrow his truck. I really need to get the rat rod going . . . been slacking on that a lot.

We added a resistor light into the circuit which should protect it.

The alternator trouble got solved, I'm happy to report. As I mentioned, I started out beginning of the week towing the maverick to the shop and it sat there for 2 days waiting for the alternator shop to finish the job. It cost $135...I don't mind the price, but like all Americans, I wanted it done yesterday :) He also threw in a new pulley (larger one, I'll get to that in a bit).

This is the day of the tow. Nice guys. Thank you AAA.

Picked up the alternator and they said the rotor was bad. Bryant thinks it overheated from spinning too fast. The pulley was pretty small and I drive it every day and race it, so it gets plenty of abuse, I'm proud to report.

They did a full rebuild, I KNOW this thing is gonna last.

This was the old pulley, Bryant even pointed out that it must have intermittently seized because it was super shiny and had some rainbow coloration.

    Check out this guy's shop....awesome.

Interesting to note, the belt was too short after the pulley swap. Ordered a longer one at the 11th hour, problem solved.

So that noise that sounded like you hit a rock probably was the alternator coming to an abrupt stop (seize) while the motor was still trying to spin it.

Good to see you got it resolved.
