I just got a really cool idea for a Home made Rotissere that can be built for under 200.00. another 200.00 and it can raise and rotate the car. Anybody ever built a rotissere?

I made one similar to the one in the first link (wish I thought to do a search here before I built it!) Similar plan, two heavy-duty engine stands, side braced and extended, with a tie along the bottom. Since it was just for my use I welded the pieces once I got it measured to where I wanted it to sit so I didn't have to build in any jacking mechanism. I had read some stories about guys not tieing the bottom of the stands together and having it tip in on the stands (back casters off ground) so I welded in the bottom tie to make sure nothing was going to bow. Made sure it had just enough clearance to spin and was level. Thing spun like a dream. I turned it over myself, had the car upside down, etc. Saved a lot of aggravation when painting the bottom and stiffening the chassis. Bought the engine stands on sale and the rest of the metal was about $50-$75 if I remember correctly. And no the jackstands aren't actually touching the rockers, just stored out of the way
I built mine somewhat like yours but stayed right in line with the bumper brackets and found it a bit top heavy when I went over - I see that your pivot point is slightly above the bumper bolt holes where mine should have been Also - your undercarriage looks fantastic - great job
I mocked it up a bunch of different ways before finally taking the plunge. I was mostly concerned about the thing having the wrong center of gravity and tipping over into my extensive collection of empty beer bottles (or me). It seemed to turn out just right for balance and "tip-a-bility". Thanks for the compliment on the undercarriage. It's got its share of scars below the surface but should be ok enough to fool any random gawkers that may crawl under for a look if it ever gets on the road...
I still have to tip it over at least 1 more time before this is all over and I now have a full cage in it - I have no idea where I stand on balance now - time to make it adjustable
haha, I guess they DO look like shopping cart wheels! That is actually the one thing that needed upgraded. Those wheels did not last, the rubber keeps popping off of the rim.
yep! It's sitting here waiting for you. I didn't risk it near Corona empties though just domestic stuff....
Nice! A word of advice, wherever you get your steel from, have THEM cut it. The place we go to charges a little bit more, but it is VERY worth it.
