History 999 report weirdness

Just received my History 999 reports from Ford for both cars. There's obviously some kind of glitch in their system because the reports say they're both Mercury Cougars. :confused: The one for the 4-door also states it was made with bucket seats, however the floor pans have obviously never been drilled for buckets. The Sprint's axle is shown on the report as a 3.10 ratio, but the door data plate identifies it as a 2.79. Apart from all of this, the reports look correct. I know I supplied the correct VIN numbers. Is there any point in contacting them again to find out what went awry here, or do I just need to suck it up and get my cars registered as Cougars?

Hurry! So they can fix the glitch and restore your cars identiy. Nothing worse for Maverick than to think its a Cougar in its cousins family. This could be psychologically damaging and might require a psyCARitrist. Good Luck.

What is a 999 report and how are they gotten?

 

Dan - the history 999 report is available from Ford and is primarily a list of the factory options that your car was built with. They use your VIN number to research it. You just phone them and they mail it out to you. Here's the link where I found the phone number:

It was free when I did it a year ago.

 

I just called as well. I already have a Marti Report but figure what the heck this is free. She told me 2 to 4 weeks for delivery. She called it a build sheet ... wouldn't it be nice if that is what was really sent ... she did not call it a letter.

 

It's still no cost. For cars built after 1966 all you need is your vin# pre-1966 models need the vin and door codes, the report is supplied for all ford vehicles.

That report dont tell everything like the Marti one does. My 999 made no mention of the Sprint package at all.

 

Hopefully it turns out to be a little more accurate for you guys than mine were. I'm gonna phone again tomorrow and see if there's anything they can do to clear up the confusion.

 

So I phoned Ford again yesterday, got a message on my machine today from the guy who sent out the original reports. He was very apologetic, once he realized they were Mav's the other details that were incorrect sorted themselves out. My new reports are already on the way.

 

Maybe the new report will show that you have a Focus Mach 1 station wagon with a Harley Davidson package?????
