Well let me start by saying I have no idea about transmissions. I've been talking to a few local guys trying to find a nice streetable converter.. One guy said go to a 3500, is that too big for street? Should I stick to like a 2500 or 2800 ? I should be putting in the range of 450-500 at the wheel and might even add a 125 shot..depends how scared i get at the track! So what else will I need, **** kit (type?) clutches? (no idea what they are but was told I need em) I'm probably missing things also so feel free to tell me whatever, thanks in advance.
you are already being told...whatever... you need to find out if it's...450 or 500 at the wheels first, then... ...call a converter company...
What engine? what weight for car with driver? what rear gears? What hp? If you are using a C4 with a 150 shot and you have 500 hp you are going to need a C4 built to handle 800 hp. That will require 7 clutches in each pack, full roller thrusts, improved oiling and cooling, hardened shafts, a manual valve body and the best frictions for your application. Your converter will be determined by a lot of info that the builder will need from you not the least of which is the torque curve of the engine and whether nitrous will be used. The lowest stall I can see being used would be a 3500 rpm stall but depending on the torque curve you might need a 5000 rpm stall. Call Jay at Broader Performance or another builder and get the converter they recommend after getting all the specs on your engine, car, and use.
