I have some massive headers going in the Mav and I was wondering if there would be any adverse effect if I took the hydraulic assist off the steering rack and just ran it manual style.

There's a kit that turns it into a manual type unit or you you could replace the power stuff with a manual box+other parts.

Thanks! I'm just wondering how hard it's going to be to turn. It's not that big of a deal as long as it's structurally safe. :)

    easy to find out
go out and coast your car and try to turn the wheel. then at a stop, try to parallel park. It'll grow your muscles

Do a search on the subject. VERY dangerous to run the system with no power assist. In order to remove the hydraullic system, it would require the adaptor or a switch over to a factory manual steering set-up. I have a complete factory manual steering set-up if you're interested. Email me directly (see below) if I can help.

I don't think it would be to safe, driving at any speed. The control valve would have quite a bit of play without any pressure on it.
I ripped the steering ram out of the frame rail on my 74 Grabber years ago, it was work to drive the car home after that, sucked getting out of my parking spot at the cruise night I was at.

Hmm just ordered a borgeson integral power steering box last week to get rid of all of my leaky steering components, have to let you know how it ends up.
