I've been searching the forums a ton the past few weeks and asked a couple questions but this is where i'm at. its going to happen next weekend but i want to be positive on what and where i cut so here it goes..i'm cutting in the towers 2 3/4" put i don't know how far above those 2 bolts to cut so that ill freely clear the upper control arm..from the top cutting down to my inset of 2 3/4" I've got a pretty good idea from pictures i have found here. if there's anything else i missed be sure to let me know and hopefully someone know where to cut above them.

You can always cut conservatively. then measure and cut a little more if you need to.

i made a cut, and found that I was WAY out of the way of the springs, and cut a bit deeper. Never had a problem with it. It was about 1/2" deeper than most guys had cut at that time.

I cut mine at about the same distance above the upper A arm bolts, but only in about 2" deep, then tapered out so as to leave some support for the shock absorbers up top.

I can measure and report back if you wish. let me know which measurements you want.

http://scooper77515.fordmaverick.net/september2005.htm has the dimensions I cut at and a few more details.

"3/8" to 1/2" from the inside of the top shock-mount, straight down, to 2" above the A-frame bolts." That is what I wrote back in '05, when I did mine.

i was looking through the threads and was just wondering why this mod is being done? Im guessing its to fit a larger engine in there? Didnt Mavs come with the 302 and such? or is there a difference between the cars?

A 302 with headers is a challange let alone a 351W, a Mod motor, Cleveland or an FE engine. Cutting back those towers really helps with exhaust and spark plug changes (y)

Did you ever finish this? How did it come out? Was your line above the bolts the correct spot? Any pix? Thanks for the illustrations, very helpful to me.

I've been super busy (in school again) got it all cut out and I hope tomorrow maybe to get one side atleast welded in.. I will post pics though when it's all said and done btw the line above the bolt seems to be correct.. Just slow as I ran into bondo filled rust holes I'll be working on first.

Not sure but I think I got a couple pics in my gallery of it.. Any specific pics your looking for? Honestly it was an extremely easy job once the measurements where I wanted to cut were sorted out.
