Hi, need some help

My daughter has a 74 Maverick and the headlights stopped working. A week ago she called me about her dome light staying on when she was out of the car with the engine off. I told her to turn the headlight switch and see if that would work. This is how it worked in my old 76 Ford station wagon. She told me that the dome light went off and all was well. Could this have broked a wire on the back of the switch that disconnected the headlights?

sometimes the dimmer switch will stick between high/low. step on it a few times.

I checked out the dimmer switch and it was working perfect. Next step was to change out the light switch itself. That was no easy thing to do...I took off the panel cover over the HVAC controls, unscrewed the 3 phillips head screws and pushed the assemble back into the hole and over to the right. Now I could see the button that has to be pressed in to release the light knob. Then it was just a matter of unscrewing the metalic screw base that holds in the switch, unplugging the wires, sneeking in the new switch, plugging it back in all through that small hole.... But it all works now. Cost of the switch at O'Rilley Auto $9.53 labor free!!!!!!
