I was looking around in the TCI web site and it kinda hit me. AOD trans, has this been done, is it possible, what needs to be done, whats better/easier AOD or C6? I could used all the info I can get on this one..
Bellhousing should work, same as 302. Shift linkage should be an easy fab if needed. The other problem is the AOD shift cable to the carb linkage. May be someone has done it and will respond. Rick
Yeah I was reading something about Lokar, what cars would be good to dig one out of for testing before ordering one from TCI.
These are what I have found for early model AOD, can anyone confirm this? and that anything later would be an AODE and be a pain in the ***? 1980–1986 Ford LTD 1980–1993 Ford Thunderbird 1980–1993 Mercury Cougar 1984–1993 Ford Mustang 1980–1986 Mercury Marquis 1980–1987 Lincoln Continental 1980–1983 Lincoln Mark VI 1983–1990 Ford Econoline 1983–1991 Ford LTD Crown Victoria 1983–1992 Mercury Grand Marquis 1982–1993 Ford Bronco 1981–1992 Lincoln Town Car 1980–1987 Lincoln Continental 1980–1983 Lincoln Mark VI 1984–1992 Lincoln Mark VII 1992 Ford Crown Victoria
How does those work? I've seen those in the Summit book, just didn't know if that would be like locking the tv in one position or what......
Is there any fabrication that needs to be done to fit an AOD? and does anyone know anything about what Torque converter to use when combining a 250 inline with a AOD?
yes, you will need a new crossmember or to modify yours, You may need a shorter driveline, you will need to get a new flexplate and you will need the converter for the AOD. The best one you can get is the latest year you can find for a 302/5.0. Don't waste your time with anything older than a 1985 AOD - they have too many problems to fix to make them right. A better option for a good AOD is to use the gear train from a later 4R70W in your case and a constant pressure valve body for your AOD.
