Question 1: my vavle body is a forward vavle body right now and i would like to but a reverse vavle body back into it from my stock C4 tranny. is there any thing i should worry about when doing this.
Question 2: what is a good shift kit to install or valve body overhals i can do to give me a better shift and have higher rpm shifts.

    Please and thanks everyone!

You realise that if you go with a reverse valve body that you will have to shift the car manually, meaning no leaving it in drive and it shifting through the gears by itself.

Broader Performance offers a do it your self kit to do the reverse manual valve body conversion, as far as kits to improve shifting with forward valve body I will let others with experience answer that part of the question.

Here is a link to Broader Performances valve bodies, I do believe they still offer a discount to forum members if you mention it

Under the advice of the MMB's most respected transmission guru, I installed the Trans-Go 40-2 kit and a "green stripe" modulator with excellent results. (This was of course with a regular valve body)

    Flare?

    Wow, this was helpful.

I just replaced my transmission with a fresh rebuild that a knowledgeable old Ford guy gave me through a barter deal. Everything was new with upgraded clutches and stock valve body. My car had a 2800 stall that I reinstalled.

The transmission worked well but had soft 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. I made some adjustments to the bands and modulator and it got better on the 1-2 shift but 2-3 still much softer then I had with the old trans.

I switched valve bodies from my old trans as it shifted hard and the only thing wrong with it was a broken reverse band. The 1-2 shift was very agressive but I got the "flare" condition that was mentioned in the article. I had not been able to get rid of the problem through further adjustment and had planned to change the tranny out again after I get the car out of winter storage.

I am now wondering if I perform the stage 4 & 5 mods in the Burly article to the stock valve body if it will cure the flare symptoms?? Anyone have any ideas???

Should I start a new post as I do not want to steal this thread??

    Thanks -

It will not cure the flare, but will make it worse.

When I did this mod, I had stock 35 year old transmission, and it was not slipping or flaring. After mod, nice hard 1-2 shift, but lots of 2-3 flare. I adjusted intermediate band and got rid of most of it, but in the end, it was just a worn out tranny.

I have a newer one in now, a rebuild that has approx 10k miles on it, put the modified valve body on it, no flare at all. Nice chirps on all shifts, and a sore neck after a hard day of driving.

Your right i would have to shift it my self but i dont mind doing that with my ratchet shifter. If i did the reverse body is a kit to give it a firmer quicker shift that some one may kno about?
