so it's 5 in the morning and i just got home from doing exploritory surgery on my mav. i wanted a better idea what was wrong with it. i removed the oil pan checked my bearings and replaced the oil pump. the rod bearings in my 250 do have some wear and i will replace them before too long but it's my timing chain causing all the issues. it is really loose and will need to be replaced as soon as possible. it's kinda nice to finally figure out what the main problem is on my engine.

well it was partially low oil pressure i kept loosing oil pressure when i was stopping or turning kinda hard. but i could never get it to run correctly and the timing chain is extreamly loose. so i'm going to get a new one and replace it hopefully tomorrow.

Might have been losing oil pressure due to barely running ... trying to stall. A tach could verify this idea.

A loose chain means that the ignition timing would be all over the map, as would cam timing.

Low oil pressure while turning ... the higher load due to power steering? ... does the car have P/S?

Dont forget to tune after you get that new chain on. Check your ign timing and you may be into some carb adjusting. You should notice a difference in driveability for sure if it was real lose/

i will deffinatly retune when i get the new chain on. i wanted to remove my pan for a couple of reasons. the main was to inspect my bottom end to find out if i had any problems, i wanted to put on a new oil pump if it needed or not, and wanted to clean any sluge or other types of deposits from out of my pan. i'm rather happy with how this motor is. i did a compresion test last week and i had really even pressure on all 6 cylinders 120-130 psi.

$30 shipped to you. I had purchased this stuff to rebuild a 250 I have in the shed for my son's car but ended up doing a 302. New gears and chain.
