Hi all. My lever on a left turn signal works fine, but the lever wont click into position. when I try to right turn signal and it has this sweet spot that i have to hold the lever to engage and maintain the right signal. My column shift lever is loose as wel as my ignition switch. My mechanic told me I would be better off finding an entire steering column because none of his parts suppliers deal with cars that old. Is this correct? and not just a hardware issue of replacing teeth, washers, nuts, etc inside my existing column? Should I find someone else in so cal to work on my car ?

Turn signal problem sounds like a broken cam(left not locking on) and contact (RH concern) problem with the switch assembly. Autokrafters and a couple of others have those switches for some models. THEY ARE YEAR SPECIFIC! So make sure if you buy one to get the correct year. The loose shifter is usually worn parts and depending on what is worn, may require column replacement but it is likely repairable. And I would get someone else to look at it if he says he can't get parts. Is Bryant's shop around there?

Look real close at the linkage under the master cyl where the column comes out and the linkage at the transmission to make sure your problem isn't outside of the column. Have a helper gently move the shifter back and forth so you can see any slop in the linkage. If it's loose at the handle, it's a matter of taking it apart until you find the culprit(s). If you're not comfortable giving it a shot, I'd drive 127 miles. That's just over 2hrs right? (maybe 10-12hrs in Cali traffic?) Or get on the phone and see if you can find someone reasonable. Maverick75 might have someone in mind.

Thanks for your help injectedmav! Well, I receive my shop manual from rockauto soon. This car will make a gearhead out of me:thumbs2:. I really am a novice when it comes to working on cars. I'm not sure if i'd want to attempt this repair myself even with that aid. I'll contact him. This setback is forcing me to find out whos in the maverick community over here, so in a way its a good thing. Get to know my wiser neighbors:Handshake

You may have loose bushings in your shift linkage. With luck, some Mustang parts may fix it ... perhaps some other board members will chime in.

I lived with that kind of problem with my turn signal for the last 20 plus years. I just hold it down to turn and click it back up when it sticks. Lol!
