Those of you with 74 mavericks wth dual exhaust was your factory fuel tank in the way of putting the drivers side exhaust pipe over the axle and out the back? I have been looking at mine and it looks like its a tight squeeze for a 2.25 inch exhaust pipe. was thinking about doing that 69 mustang fuel tank swap but I want some opinions before I go and dump money into a new fuel tank

I have dual exhaust on 2 cars, they dump behind the rear wheels, much easier in the end. 2 1/2" & 2 1/4"

I ran dual 2.25" exhaust out the back in my '73 w/ the original fuel tank. It is not that bad.
Not sure if the '74 fuel tank is larger, though.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
If you're using one of the big tanks you can still run tailpipes out the back under the valance.

Just look up first gen camaros or the late 60s Torino/fairlane. If you route them that way you can run up to 3" pipes.

when i get home i'll show you some pics I've saved over the years.

Mine is 2.25" past the mufflers and runs all the way out the back with 2.5" tips. He ran it outside the leaf springs.

I have 2-1/2" tails run between the leafs and the stock tank. Its close but any decent exhaust shop should be able to handle it. I thought I remembered seeing someone on here stuffing some modified 3" mustang tails from summit in there, but I cant recall just now who it was:hmmm:

I seem to recall that as well, but for the life of me I can't remember who the heck it was.

The easiest way to do that is to take your car to an exhaust shop and have them do it. Thay will custom bend the pipe to fit. It cost me $275 for 2 1/4" from the headers and 2 flowmasters.

It could have been, I just can't remember who it was. It will drive me nuts until I figure it out, as I am pretty good remembering stuff about people's cars....more so than their actual names. :D

If you go outboard of the frame rail, as the pipes pass over the axle, and then run along the frame, the pipes line up with the tail lights (or outers on a Comet).

I had the best exhaust guy in town tell me that he could replicate this in 2.5 inch pipe. It is currently 2 inch. The trickiest part is getting them around the shocks.

mine's pretty low and on a hard jounce they barely rub the leaf springs where they pass between the frame and spring after the axle. A good exhaust guy is worth a LOT!
