Thanks for the kentucky pointers, guys, I'll have to head over to somerset for the party.

Yeah, I'm not really worried about the 300 being too long...hell the 300 will fit into the bay of the datto...it's only an inch and a half longer than the stock L28! However...it's about four inches taller. I have a little something in mind for the 300 though...

Destroke to 240 cubic inches, install the aluminum crossflow head I built for it, run the T04B 60-trim/.96AR P-trim I snagged for 22$ and rebuilt for another 55$, head flow numbers are pointing to 590HP at 12lbs of boost, easy. The shortblock will handle that with ease. I'll megasquirt the engine, I've done a few of them so no biggie there.

As far as having enough room, as long as I can fit it in the bay vertically the firewall can be moved no sweat. I'll have to cut the tunnel anyway just to fit a decent transmission in place.

I'm starting to save up money now to get the car; will be a few months before I can manage. I'm a fairly decent fabricator, is there anything that the maverick/comet community is missing?

Why destroke it, RPM capability? 300 is a tough engine and a tremec would shift it just fine with those torque capabilities.

That is the same engine I am running, only I modified mine everything but the short block (heck, even modified THAT a bit). Mine only has about 1500 miles on it so far.

I run the CRAP out of it, spinning often to 6500, sometimes to 7000, and miraculously, it has been holding together just fine.

The "Tremec" you speak of...which one? Certainly not a T5, 3660, or TKO standard...at 590HP I suspect I will be north of 600ft-lbs. The TKO would live on the street reliably, and some of the aftermarket upgraded units certainly would, yes. The T56 would do the job admirably, as well. A junkyard C4 would last for a while, and a C6 wouldn't have much issue with it. A built C6 would be practically indestructable.

Destroking is purely because of compression ratio attainable with off-the-shelf pistons. The stock cast 300 crank starts to get whiny at about 650ft-lbs BUT the 300 also got a forged steel crank in the heavier duty motors. The forged unit is bombproof. The stock cast 240 crank just doesn't care...never seen any issues with it at all-ever-except 400,000 mile wear marks. The overlapping main and rod bearings contribute a relatively HUGE strength advantage for a cast product.

It only takes 450HP and a moderate diet to put a maverick into the mid-10's in the quarter. We'll see what happens, I still have to get the car first! Vehicle choices are in order of desireability: 2-door Maverick, Falcon, Granada, Mustang II. Yeah...I'd take a granada over a mustang II...already has front disks and a 9" rear. Both are pretty ugly though...Rather have the Maverick or Falcon.
