looking for easy 4 speed top loader bolt in trans..,,my 3 speed is a slow shifter between first and second,,dont think its design...just age,,any comments please..TIA...my 3 speed is probably not a top loader from the factory..i havent looked at it.just assumed its a side loader and they get moody as they age! gary
From what I've read here, my understanding is that the 3-speed in a manual-equipped Maverick can be replaced directly with a toploader 4-speed. (Maybe not all toploaders are a direct bolt-in swap though, it wouldn't surprise me if there are some differences in length and shifter locations depending on the vehicle it came from, that kind of thing...)
toploader with a tail mounted shifter will work - i used a 72 mustang unit. shifter came up in the stock location.
Is it a three on the tree? I always thought it would be cool to stuff a 4 speed into a car with the column shifter. Shift the forward four on the column and have a separate lever for reverse.
