Well im looking for a 3000 'off the shelf' stall
i don't need the absolute best but i don't want to buy a POS..i went down to the local parts store and through my account for a 3000 B&M holeshot was 575 after tax..seemed expensive so i asked Cliff he mentioned looking at summit so..
i hop on summit and for a hughes 3000 is about 460 to my door..(saved $100 already for a better brand too)
    but what about other brands such as;
    -Road Runner Converters
    -Dacco
    -BDR
those are just a couple i seen listed up on Ebay
i have absolutely no previous experience with transmissions. so i do not know brands or anything..plus what bolt circle do i need ? 10.5 or 11.5?

I was going to get a huges converter but sumit sent me 2 wrong converters. They don't list the right one for my car so I went with the B&M and it was $30.00 less. I went with a 2400 stall. The guys on the order desk at sumit didn't seem to have a clue. I told them what I needed it for and they still couldn't figure it out. I found the one I needed in there catalog and then he still called B&M and after a few minuites on hold, he came back and confirmed that the one I had picked was the right one. The third time was a charm and it does fit. Good luck and make sure that they know what they are talking about. :drive:

I run the Hughes "Street Master" 2500 stall converter. I think Hughes is very reputable. My only issue is that I wish I went with the 3000 stall converter.

"i have absolutely no previous experience with transmissions."

is a 3000 what you need or what you want?
I suggest you call a converter company, tell them your specs and let them confirm that is the correct stall for your app.
"The guys on the order desk at summit" don't make converters so all they, as anyone on here can do is just give you their opinion...:yup:
    EDGE makes a good one...805-277-7305.

I had that one for a long time and had zero complaints. I would still be using it if the studs hadn't been sheared off by the back of the camshaft when my previous engine blew. Currently I have a house brand Jeg's converter (which I believe is made by B&M) and it works just fine too...

not sure if I will let it go yet.. but I have a brand spankin' new one of these that I may offer up for sale soon. A bit more converter than I can probably use any time in the near future.

and as Jay mentioned in the post above me.. there are plenty of other alternatives and you only really need to shop by included features to get a decent enough street/strip converter. it's when you get into the nitrous/blower/high-stall/high-power setups that you really need to worry about spending the bigger dollars. I've used some pretty cheap and crappy off-brands over the years(GER comes to mind right off the top) and all were decent enough for the most part. But none were on 500hp motors that saw 7,500 rpm or nitrous either.. so I never really found the weak links in their corner-cutting designs.

With economy in mind this is another shop that I've used and they sell to many major players with simple rebadging of their parts.

PS. if you start running higher stall speeds and pushing more power through that little C4?.. you may want to think about upgrading that wimpy 3 pinion geared planatary. They're not much good at all for bigger power/rpm and I've destroyed 2 already. Although having a lighter car will help matters quite a bit in that regard. Also keep in mind that cheaper converters are usually looser by nature which never helps for part throttle driveability on the street. Just a friendly heads up is all. :)

Turns out he will have a custom one made for me for probably under 400..going to call again tomorrow and now confirm what I'll be getting as I'll be going with a 10" one, thanks to everyone with their input and suggestions..if i have anymore questions I'll be sure to ask, thanks.... Btw what type of tranny fluid should I use....? Do I need that expensive stuff/Lucas trans fluid? Or what it is

synthetic is superior and lasts longer.

Although, line pressures/shift firmness can sometimes decrease slightly as the viscosity is often lower with synthetics. But HP usually increases as a result of that parasitic loss reduction. ;)
