so if my car has 5 lug in the rear does that mean it was a v8 to start? i have a 1972 2 door maverick
1971-1972 5-lug meant it was a V-8 from the factory. Now....I have heard of some on here who have said that some of the 250-6 cars also got 5-lugs in 1972. I have not seen that personally. ALL Mavericks and Comets 1973 up through 1977 were 5-lug.
OK, I know that this is a hazardous statement but here it goes. I "assume" that because you said "the rear is 5 lug" that the front is not. If this is the case then it was probably a I6 car and someone put a 5 lug rear end under it. The best way to tell is the 5th digit in the VIN. Example is 2K91F for the first 5. If the 5th letter is an F then yes it is a factory V8 car. If it is a L it had a 250 I6 in it and if it is a T then it had a 200 I6. That should help.
it has 5 in the front also. i am trying to figure it out because i am gonna put "track-loc" ( learned that was the correct term in here ) gears in the rear. this info was helpful becuase now i can decode the vin. thanks
