I have a 73 maverick I plan on drag racing I want to run a 10in slick and I'm wondering what the most common 9in swap is. I was told 67 mustang I heard 65 mustang then 57 ford and versallies Lincoln. Like I said I'm looking for the most common with the least amount of trouble width wise and back spacing.I'm running ladder bars with a floater so spring pads aren't a big deal any help would be appreciated

65 (&66) Mustang or 57-59 Ford are the best bolt-ins, but only the 271 hp hipo Mustang had them, so they are scare and high-priced. The 57-59 are around if you know where to look, but you wouldn't want to use the axles or center section. The other wider rear ends would work with a different wheel with more back spacing too.

Thanks jmgford I should have noted that i have a jig for narrowing 9in rear ends i got from my dads estate and that i just planned on coping a certain width because trying to find one can get a little expensive. I think my dad was running a 68 mustang rear but he's not around to ask anymore so i'm on my own. very nice to talk to noligable people on the subject thanks again.

Mine was from a 77 or 78 t-bird. I took my 8" from the Mav along with the 9", and a new set of spring perches, and he narrowed the rear and welded on the perches. Filled it with Moser 33-spline axles and a full spool. Added gears and an Aerospace Components rear disc kit...and voila...lol

Modified the original spring perches to use with a homemade CalTracs setup, and there you have it.

The housing width on the Versailles is pretty close to the same as the Mav rear, due to the different brake offset, the overall width falls exactly between the 65-66 rear and the 68-70 (Stang) Then there's the Granada drum brake 9, not sure what the width is there, but likely the same as the Versailles as this rear was an option.
