Ruth and I and the girls got home a couple of hours ago. No blowouts on the way home. BUT, we left Amarillo on Tuesday morning. Stopped at the Russell truck stop just into New Mexico. When we came out I looked at the tires and found one pretty low. Got it back to 80, then drove for 1 1/2 hours. Checked it again and it was at 60. Got it back to 80, drove for 2 hours and it was down to 50. So I put the spare on and went on to Los LUnas, NM. We made it to Discount tires and they replaced the 2 tires we blew out on the way to the Gathering. They asked if I had the receipts for the 2 tires I bought on the way and gave me the full amount for them. Was I surprised. They went to check why I was loosing air on the other tire and their was a small split on the aluminum wheel itself. $90 for a new one and it doesn't match. But hey, I needed one right away. Anyway we had a great time and met a lot of new friends. Lots of new kids faces and some said they were bringing their grandchildren next year, after they saw all the fun the kids had. Some of the new wives said they would definitely be back also. All in all I think everyone had a great time. I keep wondering how it can get any better. But year after year it just does. I guess the location and the activities are only a part of it. The most important part is the people who attend. Thanks to all who helped at the activities and the show and the awards. You know who you are so I won't mention names.
Glad you made it home safely. Sure wish someone could figure out your tire issue. How did the truck run after the repairs? Agree that this was the best year yet. My kids had a great time and made many friends. Even my wife who had always stayed home because just doesn't enjoy long car events had a great time. Sure think everyone has changed her opinion on that. Seems every year I want to make the event last longer. By far the best car event I have ever been to. Certainly makes it hard to propose a new location as the bar has been set so high.
Made it back to Fl tonight after the repairs. Had a great time at the Gathering and hope to attend another one in the future. Thanks, Don and Ruth and to all who put this one together. Jim
Truck ran fine. I did keep it at 65 just to make sure the tires weren't getting too hot. I was doing 65 when the 3 tires on the way there blew. I talked to a guy getting fuel next to me and felt his tires. They were just as warm as mine. Not sure what the issue is. Glad Gina had a good time. She sure is a nice lady. Haven't figured out how she puts up with all you guys. Gene and Dorothy. We are still at a loss for words. What you did was so far beyond great. We were flabergasted. I know you gave the painting to Ruth, but I'll get to enjoy it also. That was by far one of the neatest things we (Ruth) have ever been presented with. Thank you again.
Don. Although it was presented to Ruth, I figured you still live there I hope you actually get to put it up on a wall so you can revisit the memories you two (and a bunch of others) helped to create. It was a challenge for my good friend "Coop" as I kept adding pics. I knew he could do it but didn't know it would be so good. Once it was done and I picked it up and seen it.. I had bad thoughts of keeping it .. But I usually follow through with my intentions.
Don, glad you made it home ok, and safe and sound. Had a great time, and look forward to the next one. Take care, keep in touch!!!
Don - I wasn't even in Somerset with you all but I am still glad that you made it home and that you all had a good time. Someday I'll have to make the gathering. Tomorrow I leave for Ohio pulling my trailer loaded with a 67 F-250. Trailers and tire problems seem to go together BUT I hope not to see any.
Effie and I left Somerset this morning around 11:00 AM....got home about...7:00 PM. .. we ran into some rain about 10 miles from home. we had a great time and are looking forward to next year... our A/C unit had knocked off at the house and the inside temp was 99...reset the power and it's chilling back down. Not sure if there is a list of all the names, but we have most of them. Approximately 85 people were there.
