I was told about a maverick grabber setting that was for sale. my nephew didnt remember how much the guy was asking for it so I went to check it out.

it was a solid original car ZERO rust! new black and orange interior  orange and black grabber paint to match outside. all of the tires were SHOT the windshield was cracked. a few minor dents nothing major. it had a decent looking 289 in it with serpentine belts and small tube headers. then before he started the car he asked if I knew the asking price I said oh no I dont know what it is remind me thats when I just about fell out he told me his asking price was $5500 :yikes:

but it was a nice car. I just couldnt see $5500 I told him I would give him $1500 without hearing the motor start he said $4000 was the lowest he would even consider going.

sounds like too much to me what do you guys think?
oh AND it was two years behind in registration

I think $1500 would be a lowball figure personally- 4000 seems reasonable based on what I've seen online. As you can see from my post count, however, I'm no expert.

If the car's original and a TRUE Grabber then it's definately worth the money..You're not going to find anything better for that price I'm sure.

You can easily spend 4k fixing rust on a car so if the car is rust free it certainly adds to the value. Especially for us that live where rust is common.

Rust free? Nice Engine? Considering what I'm doing to replace rust on mine and rebuild the engine, I'd pay $4000 to $5000.

this one wasnt listed on CL it was just sitting in my nephews neighborhood. the guy said his kid is in jail and needs the money. I was willing to go up to $2500 but that was before he told me his asking price. I didnt bother to say anymore when he said $4k. I bought my comet with a STRONG 302 VERY VERY minor rust around one rear marker light. no front seat and a bad transmission for $500. I spent $1850 on the transmission and the interior is getting done now thats running me just shy of $1200.
the other car was obviously BEAT on as far as driving. both back tires had cords hanging out. the motor was decent looking but had alot of leaks. I didnt check the vin. but it was a very 70's orange color and had the appropriate looking age fade to the paint. Im no expert but I would say it was original paint.
Ill keep looking for a good deal to come by. Im in no hurry as I really dont have room for anymore cars lol

If it has been moved from another car it wouldn't matter.
