So I've been making googly eyes at this 1977 2-door Maverick that was for sale. I told my parents that I liked this car and they decided to give me an "early graduation present". The seller started at $1000 bet lowered it all the way down to $500 without us asking! Anyways, it has a 200 i6. The seller said the motor was rebuilt and it ran, but when we got there the header was in the trunk. I told my dad that i didn't want the 200 in there and he said he has a 302 that I can put in it. So, what do I need to go from a 200 i6 to a 302? Is there any parts that I need to buy first to make it fit? Any info given would help me so much!

By the way, when I get around to seeing it again, I'm going to take lots of pictures and maybe some video of it! :)

First things first: Car needs an entire inspection to determine where to go next. I suggest getting the brakes checked out first thing, then the suspension. Got to be safe before we can go fast.

Do you need to change front springs when you do this swap?

You don't HAVE to. But new springs ride better than 40 year old springs any day. On a side note...A car with a V8 weighs less than a 6 cyl car when weighing the front axle. The 6 sits on top of the axle and the V8 sits back a little taking the weight toward the rear springs. This is why 6 cyl springs wear out before V8 springs.

Thanks guys for the info! I now have a better idea of what to be looking for. I'm going to ask my friend that likes to scrap cars out to keep his eye out for a donor maverick/comet.
I get to go put my first payment on it tomorrow, so I'll make sure to take the camera. Pics will probably be up later that night!

I am kinda new to the site as well. What about the spindles anre they the same size as the v8? I know you have four and five lug but if you are doing a disk brake converstion can you keep the six spindle?

So I went to go see my maverick and I brought the camera! We thought the camera had enough battery life for the amount of pictures I wanted to take, but it didn't. I managed to take 2 pics before the battery died
