They're run backwards (as opposed to a single four) as the front carb when turned forwards, interferes with the distributor, same as on an FE motor. Same thing goes for the triple duece setups. If you can fit the distributor with em forwards, then go for it.
baddad this is a reply i got from a guy on boss 302 registry Randy Gillis ME-- First question why mount forward instead of backwards. Randys Ans---That's the way the manifold was designed to be used. Turning them around changes the fuel distribution significantly. The 427 linkage is a lot more complicated too. I know here are those who have done it. But I did it on an engine dyno and saw lean and rich cylinders until I put them on right. Then everything "normalized" besides making more power. Randy
Local mustang guys say 45-50 hp consumed through drivetrain, alternator, and water pump. Likely not much more. For a flywheel HP of 315-ish.
Ok, I was under the assumption that the small block setup ran em backwards too (like the 427) . The linkage is no big deal, all you need is the crossunder link between the carbs. You can compensate for the mixture differences by rejetting the carbs, which is what was done with the 427 setup. The front carb was jetted richer than the rear.
Just the facts ladies! Who gives a sh!t if he said 25%. I know for a fact that two different c4’s will take more or less hp to spin. Your torque converter will also play a big part. And to tell some one they’re doing it wrong when you don’t know what they’re trying to accomplish is just plain ignorant. Ask questions first, and then give advice. Ok, sorry about that. Back to the combo’s!
