hello, i own a 76 four door factory 6- 250 maverick.. for the past 2 years... i have been hunting down v8 parts and have everything, but the exhaust manifolds or correct headers.....i have a set for the 71-75 i think... but they will not fit past my steering box without major denting in the header..... should i just do it anyways?
I don't know if this will help you I got it off fordmaverick.com in the part that helps install headers. Hedman Headers for a 73 302 manual steering: (Remember that the headers I'm using worked for a 73 302 manual steering with a floor shifter. Also, I have not hooked up the emergency brake and suspect I will have to move the brackets for it) I called JEG'S tech support (1-800-345-4545 or www.jegs.com) and told them what I needed and about a week later I had a set of Hedman Headers that fit perfect. Putting them on was pretty easy because I already had the steering box, spark plugs and the emergency cable off. Putting the passenger side on was no problem. When I put on the drivers side header, I had to un-bolt the drivers side motor mount and jack the engine up about 2 inches. After the headers was on then I installed the steering box and the spark plugs. Then I bought a cheap set of mufflers that bolted right on and added a 10 inch pipe that was turned down until I got the money to put on a galvanized dual exhaust system out the back.
see that's what i'm asking... can i not install headers or a 302 with factory 6 power steering in it?
Oh i thought you already put the v8 in the car and were trying to get the headers past the power steering....
i have a set of factory manifolds i just took off of my 71 302 for sale cheap. they fit with power steering and column shift. you didn't say if yours was an auto or manual or column shoft or floor. i did not find a set of headers that will fit with a auto column shift. i went with hooker 6901 headers and they went in with no problems. you will need a drop bracket to lower the pump and a longer belt but otherwise the fit nice let me know if you are interested in the factory manifolds.
There is no difference in the steering between the 6 cyl and 8 cyl cars. Its all the same. Some headers fit great, others do not. I've only used the Hooker 6901's and as stated, they fit great. You do have to jack the motor up to get the left side in, but thats not a big deal.
As far as headers I got Headman on mine. I had no clue what i was doing but got them in just fine but then again I have manual everything but I don't think it would get in the way if i did.
What I can't figure out is how anybody got any headers in without jacking up the motor. There was no way either of mine were going in without rasing the motor. Mine appear to be the Summit cheapies.
I have Flowtech headers on my 73 Comet 302 with power steering. I installed mine at work up on a lift. I was able to put in the passenger side from the top. I had to install the driver's side from the bottom. I didn't have to remove anything except the power steering assist. I had to remove it from the frame anyway to install the drop down bracket. Took about an hour to install it all & weld to the exsisting dual exhaust system. I guess it helps when you work for Midas & can use the shop & supplies......LOL
ok, i'll start over sitting in my driveway... is a 1976 ford 4 door maverick. with a 302 sitting bolted in it... no alternator or PW brackets. the headers i bought off of ebay which said they were for my EXACT application (76 w/302, tho i have now learned never to buy car parts off of ebay if you dont know exactly what you need.) the headers i ended up with, are too long they hit the tranny crossmember, and the drivers side will not fit around the Power Steering box... i have a hurst indy floor shifter for it, so i've tried denting the headers but i feel if i dent it in any further, running the engine with them could cause serious problems. yes i am interested in the manifolds... VERY interested... if they will work with power steering... OR would anyone like to donate a manual steering box so my headers will fit, if that would work.... buy yeah... email me @ xxthejinxedone@comcast.net about those manifolds. some of you may remeber.... i was going to put a 351 cleveland in it... i would have logged in under that name... but i do not remember it so i made a new one
Helmet, I found your other username, its HeLMeT HeLMeT. Which one do you want to use, Ill merge both usernames together.
this name please. i'd like to use this one since i own 2 1976 fords. lol an econoline 100(which i have never seen another 100 ever) and my mav..
my headers will go in without jacking up the motor(both sides).....only problem is I do not know what kind they are.........was on the car when I got it years ago.
Lol that dosent help me!!! i have to jack up the drivers side as well to get mine to fit but the passenger seems to go in from the top or the bottom with little or no struggle.
