I started with a ProComp, then got the Pertronix, night and day difference, the Pertronix made much much better performance, go for it!!

I heard you don't want the Ignitor III unless your running a higher compression engine. I'm running the Ignitor II and Flamethrower II coil with my stock engine and am very happy with it.

Yes. I had a duraspark distributor but no box so was hoping I could just add an Igniter III to the distributor. Called Pertronix to inquire and the answer is "not available for a duraspark distributor".

Not true. they make it for just about anything that had points. You want number 1261 if you have any Ford straight 6 engine before 1974. After 1974 they already came with Duraspark ignition.

I was thinking of doing the same thing but on a 72 302. From what I understand, I need to get the distributer part #, order the right pertronix unit and get a coil. Is that all I would need and are there step by step instructions on installation and wiring?

:thumbs2: to the Pertronix. Have had mine installed for about 7 years, and not a hiccup! Runs smoother, starts quicker, and no wearing parts or periodic adjustments.

I have an Ignitor III and it's the single best investment I've made on my car. It's also probably the most reliable part of my car too! LOL! Better performance, easier starting, no adjusting/replacing points, etc....it's great!
