I'd like to say hello from New York! I'm a soon-to-be Maverick owner, hoping this forum will become part of my essential tools to bounce ideas off of others, seek advice, and show the transformations of my machine. So here's a quick run-down of me. I'm a Auto Technician, have owned and customized 4 Mustang Foxbody's now with the latest being a 93 Notch. Got into fabbing more and smoothed out the engine bay, while building my 302 and T-5 tranny to run nearly a 12 flat in the 1/4 mile. I clearly am more of a builder than fabrication expert, but am jumping at the chance to grow in that area on my purchase. I'm buying this car from a distant family member, and from what I can tell, parts are scarce for these cars which will require a lot more welding, cutting, and converting. But its exactly what will keep me motivated on this long-term build hopefully.

    Now to the car:
I believe its a 1974 Maverick, big bumper car. Up-front has had the strut-towers trimmed, and re-welded to gain room for the 302 that rests under the hood. Supposedly has a decent cam, heads unknown, and the typical ignition upgrades & electric fan. Matted to the block is an Auto Transmission, which I'm assuming its a C4. Out-back has been tubbed, with a fuel cell in between. I'm not sure if the rear suspension has been modified yet to fit wider tires as I have not seen the car in person Yet. So I may be doing the modifications myself depending on whats there. Interior has a roll-bar, and race bucket seats.

My plans are to make this a high 10 Sec street/strip car, with moderate appearance. Nothing too fancy, just enough to grab some attention at local cruise nights. Eventually converting to a 351W, weather it be stroked or not, on a small nitrous shot. Interior I'd love to convert to black, change the wheel, and possibly make my own gauge cluster. Suspension hopefully going to an after-market rear to allow use of the tubbed wheel-wells, and possibly a mustang II front suspension conversion. It's a big list of "to-do's" but i plan to tackle it a little at a time, making this car my own.

So as for now, I'll be anxiously waiting for the famous tax-returns, and hopefully travel to NC mid- February to pick-up the new toy! Of coarse more detailed information and pictures will have to be posted once in my possession. Once again, Hello from NY, and any comments / suggestions / tips are always welcome.

Here are some pictures I have been able to get a hold of:

    :Welcome: from Northeast Pennsylvania

The shock towers didn't need to be trimmed for a 302 but you'll be happy they were when it comes time to install your 351W

Welcome from Buffalo!!! Ask the current owner to take a pic of the last certification sticker on that cage and send it to you (If its been certified at all)If not... Ask for pics of all the welds on the cage. Where in NY are you located and good luck!!!

Thanks for all the welcomes. No clue what rear-end is in it yet until I go and see it in person. The car I believe is in storage and has been sitting for a few years. So unable to get pictures. I'll know more once I get there in a few weeks.

Mavman72 - No clue on the cage certification, not really a big factor yet at this point in the build as its no where near the 10- second mark. And I'm located about 65 miles east of buffalo, Brockport NY

Now THAT's how you start a "New Member" thread--with lots of pictures!!

I really like the way the big bumpers have been tucked, sectioned (narrowed) and blended right into the fenders and quarters. I don't think I've seen anything like that before.

Good luck with your project, and Welcome from New Brunswick, Canada!
