That's strange. LKQ Durham lists $149 plus $35 core. Not finding anything special about 8.8 pricing.

    Quote: Axle Assy, Truck D To D $149.99 $35.00

There are lots of '95='01 Explorers here.

Pull-A-Part in Atlanta wants $117.31 + $26.80 core. This includes the disc brake setup

Most Explorer rear axles have the Trac Loc. It is almost hard to find one that doesn't. My 98 Sport is a 4.0 V6 and two wheel drive and came from the factory with a 3.73 Trac Loc.

If you look at the axle tag, there should be an "L" where the decimal point would be for the the ratio, and that means Trac Loc. "3L55" and "3L73" are common ... Dave's "4L10" was a bit of an exception and I am betting it was part of an upgraded towing package.

UPDATE,, LKQ in crystal river will deliver the rear to my store. It is a 3.73 gear and they do not know if its a trac-loc or not. I have to look at the tag myself when it gets here and if its not a locker I can send it back No charge to me... $100 plus tax... LOL how many should I buy....

I think either ratio would be pretty good. The T5 came with a pretty tall first gear and 80s Mustang GTs had 3.08s IIRC, so you may find that you hustle through first pretty fast. With the better Explorer gear, you might find yourself launching in second when driving it easy.
