I hope stuff like that black piece isn't covering a lot of the inside of your tank. I'm currently dealing with an F100 tank that has a bunch of stuff that looks like that in the bottom of the tank.

    Hey Everett,

Was considering a lot of options but just settled on one today. The F100 will get a new '70 Mustang 22 gal tank at the rear under the bed behind the rear axle where the spare tire would normally be stored. I have a side mount spare tire bracket and rear fender with indent for the spare tire. That will eliminate the in-cab tank behind the seat.

I'll still try to clean the old tank out to sell it 'cause repros cost $260-$300.

Gonna try a few things. I already stoked it for 24 hours filled with a half bottle of diswasher detergent and water. Found that lacquer thinner breaks up the hard deposits so I'll try of slurry of lacquer thinner and sharp pebbles rocked back 'n forth to loosen up the hard stuff. Will use electrolysis with the tank full of water and washing soda and a sacrficial electrode thru a rubber plug in the the sender/pickup hole to deal with surface rust in the top of the tank. Then rinse it well and dry it.

OP, sorry if we hi jacked but maybe some of this will be helpful to you if your tank is as nasty as mine.
