I am going to replace the foam in my bucket seats. The covers are in excellent shape but the foam has turned to powder and is coming out through the comfort weave. Now that they are apart I am not sure what is the best way to put them back together. QUESTION IS working on the upper back rests, (A) - Do I clip the covers to the foam first and then install the foam on the frame OR (B) - do I install the foam on the frame first and then slip on the covers and hog ring them? Every post that I found was after the fact with some great pictures but none during the actual rebuilding of the seats. Any help from people who have tackled this project would be appreciated.
    Thanks ... Bob

Put the foam on the frame and then slip the covers on. If you put a plastic bag over the foam it will ease installation of the covers.

I'm sure you'll find "how to" articles you'll find if you search the Internet.

Can cloth seats be recovered with leather or is the foam different too?

I used 71/73 Mach1 covers in all black, over new foam... Word of caution, if you plan to match the back seat buy the set... I found out for some reason they don't sell the back cover separately... The back will not fit, but you can have the inserts sewn in your new cover...

Are you sure it wasn't two or three days? I remember doing my 68 Mustang coupe and I couldn't tie my shoes or zip may pants for days

Maybe so, I do remember laughing hysterically when someone asked me to do theirs when they saw mine!

Well I ran into some problems. The listing rod tubes crumbled and now I will have to have new ones sewn onto the bottom covers. Still having problems getting the hog rings onto the vertical rods on the back portion of the seat. I think Im gonna ship em off to someone else and call it a day!

I covered my 73 seats. I don't think there is a lot of difference between 71/72 and 73's.
I took my time; did it over abt a week during winter of 2010-11. I assembled/restored my seats on my basement workbench. I bought a set "straight & curved handle" of hog ring pliers. I probably cud have finished the job in half the time, but I spent lots of time wire-brushing and painting the springs. My hands & wrist mostly, were a little sore, but nothing to complain abt. I soaked them in warm/mildly hot water and put some of that muscle rub stuff - and all was well. My covers came frm Fred Carello and were a gud fit.
It was my first attempt at this type of restoration/repair and I am pleased w/ the results.
