Any one have any info on rebuilding sport mirrors? Mine are in good shape, but are "floppy" so to speak. You can tap on the housing with your hand and the will kinda fall down and not stay in the position you set them at. Not functional mirrors at all. LOL

Just wondering if someone has taken them apart and would care to shed some light on dismantling them and getting them tightened up.

    Thank You :)

Check the set screw inside the mirror. Just move the glass to one side, and use a screwdriver to tighten the screw. Mine loosens up from time to time. Put a drop of locktite on it, and it should stay put. Don't know about rebuilding them. I do know the glass is available. Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up, I will give that a try I was thinking it was going to be something in the remote assembly that needed tightened up.

I never took one apart before, just trying to get some info so not going into it blind

Autokrafters supposedly has a good source for mirror gaskets now. They had problems before but allegedly that has been rectified.

74 Heres what I did with a loose mirror and it's holding fine. I put the car in the garage and found the setting I wanted by meassuring every angle I could and marking this spot on the inside of the garage door. I looked out the drivers side to get a height and so on. When I found the position I thought I want I mixed up some 20 minute epoxy glue. After removering the mirror I put alittle on the center ball, reinstalled the mirror and set it with a yard stick as I sat in the drivers seat. ONLY use a little glue at this time ! ! ! Now after it has set up drive the car around and make sure you are happy with your mirror placement. If not you can remove it and break it free ( thats why you only used a little ) and reset it and try again. When you fine the best place you remove the mirror and glue the hell out of it !. I have epoxy around the whole ball and on both side pins and it's holding just fine. Thats the only fix I could come up with. Good luck Rick

I just fixed one of these for the drivers side. All the remote cables were OK, just had poor friction on the ball. I carefully cleaned out the ball and socket area of all the old sticky grease. Then repacked the area with 3M autobody chaulk. That stuff is very sticky and doesn't harden up. That seems to have done the trick as the mirror moves with the remote on all 3 axis and is firm enough now not to move on its own.

My passenger side, non-remote sport mirror was flopping around. I removed the mirror from the housing, stripped about 1/2" of insulation off of some #12 house wiring and slipped the insulation over one of the pins that are supposed to provide some friction to hold it in adjustment. Worked great and its still adjustable.

    Great idea ...... .... !

I thought about trying something similar. I have a bunch of that shrink tubing used to cover wire after splicing. Thought about cutting one of those and slipping it onto the guide pin then shinking it tight with the heat gun.

Since the topic is active again in another thread, I'll report that this "fix" only worked for a little while. :(
