Disk Brakes Are Definitely The Way To Go Since You'll Be Driving Your Comet Daily It Seems. Can't Recall The Number Of Times Disc Brakes Have Prevented An Accident With Me (Not On My Maverick, But On A Newer Car).

Greetings And Welcome From Hanover, Ma. :Chirp:

-disc breaks can be cheap if you can find them at teh junk yard or pick up a complete set up here or you can go spend $3-$4000+ on a really good wilwood or brembo set up :16suspect:yikes:

as as far as road rage goes it comes with driving an old car. you have that sense of seniority as your car has been on the road for 40 years and is made of metal while these new cars are made of plastic and will obviously be smashed to bits.

it also may be a little bit of a senior citizen complex coming out early from having an old car :rant2:

Damn! That paint job is pretty sweet and for the cost, you can't complain. Guess I'll be making a trip to Walmart for some paint. I'll be sure to give you a call the next time I'm in the area. It's been nice stumbling across this forum as I've only seen a handful of Comets and to find this community...Well I feel less cool now for owning a Comet :biglaugh:

Yikes! Definitely can't afford $3k-4k. Maybe when I'm done with school and become an analog rockstar, but until then, bumming it and scrounging around is my only option.

And yeah...The whole senior citizen complex has been rearing it's ugly head for many years now and I'm only 27. Two bad knees, bad back, and a general dislike for the younger generation. I feel like an old man already :D

Regarding the disc brake swap for the front ... it is doable for $300-400, maybe less if you are lucky in scoring some of the major parts. Search some of your options here ... 74-77 Maverick/Comet or 75-79 Granada/Monarch parts work well.

This also changes things to 5 bolt wheels. Is your car a V8? If so, you already have 5 bolts. If it is a 6 cylinder, you have 4 bolt wheels and will likely want to swap the rear axle, too. ....or carry two spares ...

Popping the front seat out will be so easy, you will ask why you didn't do it sooner. Think of all the spare change you'll find when you do ... :D

Welcome, you can only go a little wider on tires, not much room in fender well area on these cars.I`d get a rebuilt carberator and get the choke set,and then do a tune up.A body shop can help you w/ the door and gauges are`nt hard to install(Autometer Gauges).:thumbs2:
