has anyone ever locked out the timing on a duraspark distributor. I know it can be done but not sure how. I am installing a nos cheater kit and do not want the timing jumping around.

the efi distributors should work. i would think the ones with remote module would work. 94-95 mustang ones.

Excepting for the high altitude modules(yellow grommet, maybe others?) isn't all the timing controlled by the mechanical & vacuum advance inside the dist, same as with points??? That being the case just disconnect the vac and you'll still have 12 or 18* mechanical timing advance(depends on which limit slot is used on the breaker assembly)...

If you want to limit timing completely, remove the breaker plate assembly and the advance springs, then wrap a couple small but stiff wires around the posts in place of the springs... Reinstall breaker plate...

A TFI type dist as Bryant mentioned could also be used, just need ground and 12v to power the module... There may also be a crank circuit connection that allows a hotter spark when cranking(I'll have to pull up a schematic)... That would feed back from the small post nearest the starter cable connection on the solenoid to the module...

Well I don't have a Duraspark dist on hand but was planning on checking out the points dizzy I'll be using in my Comet, I can shoot a couple pict of removing the breaker plate and mechanical advance springs(Gonna use it to trigger a MSD)... Will be a couple days till I get to the dist...

When I ran the juice on my EFI 5.0 T-Bird I reduced the initial timing from 10* to 5* and had at it... That's why I suggested disconnecting the vac advance and and run it like that... IF you want 30* total advance, rev it up and set timing with it running 4K RPM and that will be max timing the engine will see(again vac advance remains disconnected)...

So do you have a way to retard timing for starting the engine? But to answer your question (maybe) you could probably drill through the stationary plate and advance plate and put a screw through both to lock them together. I don't have one in front of me to see if that will work though.
