I saw a lot of different LED versions of the 1157 tail/brake/turn light bulbs on Ebay today. Some short with the LED's only on the face of the bulb - some taller ones with the LED's on the face and also all around the sides of the bulbs. Anyone using LED tail light bulbs and have any input on them?

I had these on my Falcon but people said they were not bright enough.

I had some in my car, the ones with all the led's in the face and they sucked.

I hate LEDs for tail lights. I think they're fine for front turn signals though.

    Great answers :thumbs2:

I guess I'll be staying with my 1157 and 1156 bulbs - they looked so high tech and impressive that I expected them to be like real bright spotlights :hmmm:

I was surprised by the silver star 1157 bulbs, they are quite a bit brighter in my sport lamps, and cheaper than the LEDs.

I tried them on both my maverick and on my car trailer. Like was said, they made a red "hot spot" right where the bulb was, with very little light to the sides. I can't say on the ones with the led's on end and sides, they might do better, but I don't think it will be enough of a difference for the cost involved. I painted the inside of my reflectors with aluminum silver paint, that helped more than the leds did.

If matched to the color of the lens, these LEDs are brighter than incandescent. Combined with painting my reflectors white on the inside, they made a big difference. And because the individual LEDs are placed all over it, you get even dispersion of light like the OE incandescents. They're not cheap, but they last forever.

If you want significantly brighter the OE, these ones are the best:

I painted some reflectors for florescent lights with silver and then with white paint. The white was much brighter! I also used white on the inside of my instrument cluster and it made a miraculous difference in brightness! This is with new stock bulbs! (y)
