A friend told me about a Maverick for sale near me. It is parked at a vacant lot on the main road here that rents space for private owners to advertise their vehicles for sale.

From the road, the car looked great. Bright Red 75 Maverick 4 door, white vinyl top and it looks very clean.

Unfortunately, the car is a "30 footer".... as you get any closer you see bondo peeling off of every door and fender, where it was lovingly applied over the bottom 6 inches of rust on each panel. There was a NY bumper sticker on it, so this car has seen road salt.

A big bead of sealant across the entire bottom of the windshield chrome ... can we say "wet floors"? Betting the cowl is shot.

Still thinking "parts car", so I look at it further. Clean black interior except for one giant split in the otherwise-great dash pad. Good armrests and panels (4 door, though ...). I gently lift the hood and it is a 6 cylinder, so I gently lower and latch the hood. Good thing too, because I am pretty sure paint is the only thing gluing the bondo and the front trim on the entire front edge of this worthless hood.

At that point, I am thinking if I scraped together $500-600, I could still make something happen here, but that would be a stretch.

I went to get the phone number from the for sale sign, and that is when I spied the fine print at the bottom....

    "$7200 obo"

That made me convulse in laughter. I knew it was time to go. Didn't bother taking down the number. Give it a year, and I will be pulling parts off of this at my favorite salvage yard.

Sounds like something you will begin to see the price drop on every few days or so until he takes it off the lot completely

    That made me chuckle

$72.00 for a gem like that! :yup:

Ohh, wait, you didn't put a decimal point in.....guess it's just another crack head that thinks just because something is old it's worth gold. :(

Resurrecting an old thread.... almost a year since I first saw this car ....

    Just listed on Craigslist ....http://tampa.craigslist.org/psc/cto/4731338142.html

This car looks so good in the picture, like it did from the road. It is utterly amazing... My candidate for "Best Paint on the Absolute Worst Car" award. ....LOL. You need a tetanus shot to be anywhere near this car.

The price came down ... wonder if it changed hands since I saw it in person.
