Will the 250 bolt in place of a 200 if you change the bell with it? I have a '78 fairmont wagon in very good condition except the 200 in it burns more oil than gas..... I had a line on a 250 and auto trans for cheap. I was wondering if it is the same foot print as I read somewhere the 250 is wider or something?? can not recall.

I can't say for a Fairmont, but I've ran both a 200 and 250 in my '72 daily beater Maverick and never touched the frame mounts. Just change the bell housing and it should bolt right in. You'll need the torque converter and flex plate for the 250 as well. May have to get new radiator hoses. In the Mavericks, the Z bar and linkages for the automatic column shifter are different between 200 and 250 also.
