289 motor

    1975 Ford Maverick 4-door
    so i have located a 289 motor but haven't found out the year....i was wondering what is the oldest and newest 289 that will fit my 75 maverick

    there all the same on the outside, some have a diffrent bell housing bolt pattern though. other then that it will go in exactly the same way a 302 would. the diffrences between a 302 and 289 are all internal.

    You would be best off using a 65.5-68 model engine.
    Anything before mid-65 will have the 5 bolt bellhousing pattern.
    It will still fit fine, but you will have to convert the tranny to bolt up.
