I'm installing a 302 into my 70' Maverick, and I bought the frame mounts, but when I lower the engine in, only one of the sides bolts up, and the other mount's hole is about one inch inward from lining up with the hole on the frame. Is there something wrong with the mounts or my car, or are there other pieces that I need?
Couple things to check: Do you have the frame mounts upside-down, or at least one of them... Do you have Maverick specific engine mounts... They are unique and if one or both engine mounts are not the right part, they will not line up with the frame mounts. Dave
Make shure you have the mounts on the right sides. You can tell by looking at the mounts when installed. They should have an overhang to the back side of the mounts. If the overhang is to the front they are on the wrong sides.
I bought the mounts at a maverick specific store on ebay, theyre' on right, but I think they might be two of the same side, because if I take one off and move it to the other side, it lines up the same way on both sides, but the mounting arms (where the bolts go through to the engine) ones longer and one is shorter, but both mounts are identical. So is it a mixup with the mounts? because if i put the mounts on, the front arm on one is long, and the other side has the shorter mount on the towards the front of the engine.
Out of the 4 mounts needed, the 2 on the engine side (engine mounts) are universal. Doesn't matter which side you use them on... FACT. However, the 2 on the frame side (frame stands), I think are unique and not interchangeable. Someone will correct me if I am wrong. However, if my memory serves, this is the case. They are easy to put on upside-down, or backwards, however you want to look at it. When you do this, they will look right, but not line up with the engine mounts. Edit: If your frame stands are not upside-down, and you still have one mount too wide to match, you have one or both Stang style mounts. They will put the holes off by about an inch on one side. Ask how I know...
The probelm you describe I just ran into this weekend. What I did was get one side bolted together...then raised the motor, removed motor mount from motor and bolted it to the frame mount.....then dropped the motor back down. Worked like a charm.
kinda what i do...put one mount on motor the other one on the frame... leave everything loose untill all bolts are started. ...frank...
I'm glad you guys brought this up, 'cuz I wouldn't have known. Removing the engine was easy. Dropping the new one in could be a bit more challenging. Just waiting on some decent weather to paint the compartment, and then I'm ready...
