ok so first things first, i am poor, i have 1 baby 18 months old and one on the way. i have had my maverick for a bit now and i was bored so i did this today. im getting it ready for a full sound system and some Dynamat so i have been cleaning today. what do you think? and what can i do about the rust. im used to working on the mr2 and fiero so not a big rust guy lol.
the only sound system allowed in my car is the V8 under the hood haha.. for the rust go down to autozone and pick up some Purple Power DeRuster, i use and is only lik 6 bucks a quart and works good. scrub the rust with that and a red scotch brite and itll take care of most of it.
After cleaning it you might want to add something like a coating of POR-15 over it to keep the rust from coming back. I wish my floors looked that clean.
Those are some clean floors! don't forget to remove the rubber plugs and clean the rust around the openings. POR15 is a urethane based coating that is completely moisture tight so rust won't reoccur on treated areas. The trick is to make sure you have converted and neutralized the rust that is there now because once you coat it with POR15, you are going to have a very difficult time of removing it should the rust continue under the coating(which is highly unlikely). Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator works equally as well.
Por15 is a rust treatment. that will lift the rust off the tub, and treat it.. supposed to last like 25yrs they say... i had done to mine a few months back when they painted my car, cause im about to put an ACC carpet in it.. made my inside of my tub all shinny black=) lol...
