Can someone please explaine to me how the seatbelt system works in a 74 Maverick. The 74 I just got has only lap belt in it. I gutted to interior today and found the lap belt was only attached to the floor pan. Just a hole drilled and a bolt. I then found the orginal seatbelt housing on the inside of the rocker panel. Someone had cut off the ends. I suspect this car had lap and shoulder belts. I'm thinking I'll have to start looking for new/used seatbelt parts.

My '74 Grabber is orginal except for engine modifications. The front seat belts are lap and shoulder together as in one assembly. There is a seat belt interlock switch and plug under the driver seat witch bypassed the ingition switch. When a person sat in the driver seat you could not start the engine unless you were buckled up. You could pull up on the seat belt and start the engine but the seat belt warning lite and busser would remain until you buck up! You can un plug the wires under the seat to bypass this system. I left my pluged in so it could be demonstrated is asked. My car has the deluxe bench seat interior. I bought a new '74 Grabber with buckets seats and the seat belt system was the same! I think this system was used in the '74 model year only.
