We have one in Daytona Beach. It's been there for about 10yrs now. The thing that ticks me off is when someone smashes what you need to get what they need!!! http://www.lkqselfserve.com/locations/LKQ_Self_Service_Auto_Parts_-_Daytona_Beach-225
I still remember my first visit to one of these places in Edmonton, AB. The Mavericks and Comets in the yard were in better shape than the one I was driving back east! I watched in horror, as the "technician" drained the gas out of cars by punching a hole in the bottom of the tank with a screw driver! Another 2 door Maverick had a nice 80's chevy pick-up resting against it's dry, rust free quarter panels! This was all in the 'prep' section of the yard. What a shame. I agree with you, Simple Man, but a lot of the damage starts before the public gets there. But yes, things tend to get ruined for no good reason!
Our Pull-a-Part is laid out about the same. When you walk up to the door...the door automatically opens for you like the doors at Wal Mart. There's touch screen computers to greet you so you can get a print out on the year and location on what roll the cars are on. Give the guy a dollar to gain access to the yard. The doors going into the yard are also automatic. Grab a heavy duty wheel barrel to carry your tools and parts. If you get thirsty while in the yard there are soda machines. If your soda goes right through you then there are porta potties you can relive yourself. If you get too hot, they have picnic tables under an awning to sit in the shade. All the cars are sitting on jack stands made from rims and the whole yard is graveled so no need to get muddy. They also have a couple A-frames if you want to pull an engine. If you have more parts that can fit into your wheel barrel they will come get them and help you load them in your truck. Once back in the paved parking lot you can grab a sandwich off the meat wagon or buy an ice cream if you like. Check out Pull-a-Part prices compared to LKQ. http://www.pullapart.com/parts/pricing.aspx?letter=&loc=3&#pricelist http://www.lkqselfserve.com/locations/LKQ_Self_Service_Auto_Parts_-_Daytona_Beach-225/prices/
I totally agree! I've watched a guy take a pickaxe and slam a hole in a gas tank when it had a drain plug on it!!! These outfits are volume sellers and don't give a f- -k! It's a shame but there's nothing you or I can do about it!
why even shop there? with prices at 80% of retail why would you even buy a used part. the only way I would buy anything there was if I couldnt buy it new. otherwise to save a few bucks forget it. I hate junk yard parts. I would rather spend $100 for a new part then $80 for a part that who knows how much its been used or abused. they should start there price at 50% but then again why should the junk yards be left out of the everyhting is priceless when we have it mentality
The Pull-A-Part here is like that. Although I wouldn't call the prices "80% of retail." They're cheap. But yeah, when they get a Maverick in there, the first thing that happens is somebody rips out the knob for the driver's side air vent below the dash trying to open the hood, and then they destroy the hood opening it with a forklift. Every single time. I am going to absolutely fall to my knees and cry the day I finally see a Grabber hood in that place, because it will be crumpled like a newspaper by the time it gets on the lot.
We have LKQ here. Not my favorite junk yard but you can get SOME stuff at good prices. I got a pair of Bob Cat tail lights for $20 and I'll probably get an Explorer disk-disk LSD rear end for about $150. They don't distinguish one thing from another e.g., all rear ends are the same. You can go on their web site and see the prices. Don't leave your tools unattended or they will walk off with some other customer.
we have an LKQ here...only bought paint supplies there...wasn't happy with the customer service end of that...
Do you know the name? I would be happy to find a yard that hangs on to old stuff. Most places crush the old cars right away.
