ok lately i've noticed my maverick has been on the slowish side.. i pull out and go to get upto speed and it's like if it has zero acceration to it. it bugs me what minor changes can i do to fix it?
Have you tried changing the fuel filter? Try that along with spark plugs (check their gap) spark plug wires, rotor, cap, condensor and points...... I think you'll prolly notice a BIG difference..... Good Luck! Preston
Oh, by the way....what engine and tranny? Doesn't really matter....this is a pretty good choice for most engines. And not very expensive either!! Again, Good Luck!! Preston
yea i'd put a cap, coil, plugs and wires in and change out the fule filter. but thats just basic tune up stuff. timing may be an issue and also tuning the carb. maybe the kick down isnt engaging under heavy throttle? try shifting it in to 2nd when you take off, see if that makes a diffrence. they trans should do it but you never know i'd get going with that 2bbl swap too, really woke my 250 up!
Good point! That sucker could be clogged up. If it is equipped with one you can climb underneath (when its cold ) and whack it with the palm of your hand. If it rattles, the honeycomb is broken up and is likely the culprit. 1975 is the year they started putting cats on cars...
Yep, '75 was the first year of cats. If the car has points, I would reccomend converting to Duraspark II ignition. But it should have the Duraspark I ignition, I beleive.
I never even thought about the cats.....Mine didn't have one (72) and doesn't have 'em now either.....And my truck is about to lose both cats...... shhhh.....
Check to make sure that you are getting Wide Open Throttle (WOT) when the pedal is pushed to the floor (engine off). Check your timing. Check the breaks to see if they are dragging. (make sure the park brake releases completely) At wide open throttle and with the downshift rod pushed all the way toward the transmission there should be .060 inch clearance between the throttle lever and the kickdown plate, adjust the screw to get the proper clearance. If it has a good tume-up on it and all the other things check out but it still feels like you are pulling two cars behind you replace the torque converter. If the stator is broken it will not accelerate no matter what you do.
welp guys i think i found the culprit... i was driving home from work a few minutes ago and under the car one of the pipes going to the motor is ringing and chattering and it's leakin oil pretty bad...
leaking oil uh? sounds like yor oil pump may have gone bad. the gas leak is causing poor aceleration and may also be leaking oil from its seal? a little more details would help
car it's been leaking oil ever since i got the car cuz the heads are screwed and need fixed... but the stupid tapping noise got louder when i accelerated and i pulled over at the gas station and put it into park and it still did it so i got out and looked underneath and i see smoke coming outta a pipe and oil was dropping to the ground in a heart beat but i left a note for my dad to take it to his shop with him in the morning and to look at it... hopefully it decides to be an easy fix
