"IT is" a bar that hooks to the carb and when you mash the gas to the floor it causes the car to downshift to 2nd gear to give you more power for passing and going up big hills.

I believe with the right 2bbl you can use the stock one with a little modifiation. other 2bbl carbs you might have to make one or at least ask the place that you buy the carb from if they make the "kickdown bar" to make the auto trans downshift into passing gear. I ran a v8 for a few years without the kickdown bar and since it was a hurst dual gat floor shifter it was real easy to just downshift myself when I needed to.
But you really should have the kickdown bar on it if you want good performance when driving the I6 and have to go up hills and pulling out into traffic and such.

I've never ran one of these in anything i've owned ford wise... I manually shift it down if i think I need it.

Even with my 700R4 in my truck, i downshift it from OD to Drive when I need to and even down to 2nd if necessary...

Which is all good and fun but you have to admit there is some mistique to mashing the gas to the floor, feeling the car downshift on it's own and hearing that carb sucking for air. Even my 200 with the 1bbl makes that sound when I mash down on it
