I've attached two photos of what I'm told is an Air Diverter Valve that is on my 76 Maverick. It connects to the smog pump. In Arizona we still have to pass emissions each year and my Mav flunked big time. The guy who just rebuilt my carb said that exhaust was leaking out the top vent of the valve and when you connect the vacume tube to it that leads to the carb the car ran like crap. He says that he thinks the valve is not working. I took it off and banged it a bit on the ground and got some chunks of carbon to come out but am wondering two things:

    1. Where can I find a replacement for this part? None of the local parts places carry it and two others out of state did not carry it.

    2. Can I just clean it and put it back on? Can I soak it in something overnight to get more of the carbon out?

I think this is the only thing I need to get working to pass emissions as I had both the carb rebuilt and the engine tuned.

Try NAPA. If a parts house does not have one for a Maverick maybe one from something else.???

I'm glad I live in GA ... Good luck with finding the part and passing the emissions test ....
