    Hello,
I'm currently prepping a 302 to drop in my Comet. I have an Air Gap Medium rise intake that I am considering on using. Wil this fit under my hood?

I can't speak from experience here.. but I've been around here long enough to know the answer by now.

    Nope.

Not unless you cut holes in the hood and cover it with a big scoop.. or run a velocity stack. You could also gain some clearance by dropping the motor a tad.. but that's easier said than done.

Standard height Air gap intakes on 302s' fit as long as you use a drop base air cleaner assembly. If you are not useing maverick frame stands and mounts then the answer is nope. If it were a 351 the answer would also be nope... Measure twice/cut once though...There is ALOT of variation in tolerances on mavericks. What workes for one may not work for the next.

Not sure if you're just generalizing here.. but what is "standard height"?

You're referring to typically sized Edelbrock, Dart, Weiand, Procomp, etc.. dual planes?

Oh.. and PS. Drop style bases combined with full choke towers can do some damage to airflow efficiency. Of course.. it's almost always best to choose the intake volume over the air cleaner if we're forced into making that compromise.

OP states "medium rise" airgap...I know the "standard height"air gap (yes std height as in what you posted) fits fine...A mid rise may not, hence the "measure twice cut once" statement. If OP had posted the difference in height, my statement may have been different... OPs' info was rather general so I didnt see a need to get complcated for him, hence my general response.:tiphat:

I am aware of the flow deficienies with drop base setups but...If you dont want to cut a hood...You need to compromise somewhere right???

I have an air gap on mine, had to cut a hole in the hood, but covered it with a mach 1 hood scoop, 69 version, i think it looks cool,

Is your engine sitting on stock mounts??? What type of air filter assy are you running??? Are you useing a carb spacer??? I have a freind whos mav has an airgap on it and it fits under the hood just fine. I also had one on my 302 powered mav and it fit fine as well...

I do have a spacer, stock mounts, i cant put a low slung air cleaner base on , hits the fuel line, edelbrock carb, the spacer made a difference , and i can live with the scoop, actually follows the hood lines, sides i do have two spare hoods incase i change my mind,

The spacer makes all the difference. I hear ya on the E'brock carb and drop base. Had an E'brock on my 351 Sprint, the drop base set up was a bear with throttle linkage and fuel lines. I went to a QF 650 and actually have a 1/2" more clearance between the hood and air cleaner now. Of course, thats all the room I have with the 351 LOL...

I am planning on running an edelbrock rpm airgap intake and want to verify that it will fit. I am getting conflicting answers. Can someone confirm.

    Thanks

How is the quick fuel working for ya ? I am thinking of switching this spring, my wife thinks i am nuts, after all the time i spent calibrating this one ,:hmmm:

I like it much better than the E'brock. Much more tunability and the E'brock is limited once you start running fairly big lift/duration numbers. The QF just plain idles better...Responds better meters fuel better. Idle circuit transition to main metering is also higher up in the low idle area as well (1900 RPM) That was critical for me since I run an AOD trans. It was easier to adapt to my application as well (Hood clearance issues and a drop base Air filt assy. Its an HR series 650 DP with an electric choke and it all fits just fine under my hood.

Cant get the E'brock tuned to your satisfaction either huh??

Got as much as i could from it ,but still lacks at certain rpm levels, i think i will try the QF, maybe keep this one for another project, thanks for the info on that ,,:thumbs2:

is that intake and a carb set up higher than a super charger and carb? I remember a silver comet I think it was that was sneaking around with a super charged 302 under the stock hood
