My mechanic says it can be done, but wondering has anyone else done or attempted this. I was told would not fit under any circumstance, well not any but... without cutting the car up.
Just finished my install in my 73 http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=27292 and 71Gold just did it in his 71 Mav. So unless the 7- has a smaller tranny tunnel then it is do-able.
Ok, this is why I was asking because I was informed that the tunnel was a bit smaller, therefore, would not fit. Has anyone done this on a 70. I know you can do them on later model 73... with no fitment problems. I squeezed one in my 66 Mustang with no problems. I have not looked under each to compare the width of the two tunnels. Anyone ever done it on a '70...
I have the engine and AOD installed in a '70 but to make it happen, I had to trim the bracing in the trans tunnel almost completely away. This doesn't concern me too much because of the roll cage, subframe connectors and additional bracing already installed in my car. If you look at the tail shaft from the rear, you will see that the top of the case is almost square where the tailshaft cover joins the back of the trans case. There are two bolts holding the pieces together on top. Those two points are what contact the trans tunnel brace. So you need to cut away the brace to clear those two points. No other points of interference.
