what kits are out there to use with a carburated 302? I am considering going with a centrifugal instead of the weiand I was initially gonna go with. At what point do I need an intercooler?

at this time bryant and I are building a lower compression (8.7:1) 331 and we should have it wrapped up pretty soon. There is a T5 that's gonna get beefed up soon sitting behind the 302 right now.

the general rule of thumb is 10psi,

here's a place where most serious street/strip import guys get their intercoolers from. Decent prices and their great quality.

but your comp ratio is just begging for a turbo :)

the prices are great on that site! vortech and procharger seem to be favorites. I figure I should be ok without an intercooler but I can always add it later.

You'll handle 8-10 fine with a good tune a intercooler would be a great helper since your pull'n hot air from in the engine compartment through the system, but for a stock block build it'll be fine cause before that makes a big problem you'll be make'n 2 much power for a stock block.

my only concern with the centrifugal is that the engine on the lower rpm's is gonna feel super weak. 8.7:1 is not gonna make for much of an engine until the SC kicks in.

^I dont know about that,in a buddy of mines ar you feel it all the time,it kicks in harder when the boost goes up but it aint no slouch in the lower rpm,its a hell of a ride.

compression ratio doesn't really matter with the RPM range(someone correct me if im wrong)

My last engine was 8.2:1 but it still had gobs of low end RPM, it was built for it.

Also your going with a 331 which will bring the power band to a lower RPM, but still have the same power level.

and with those AFR's you'll have plenty of power (y)

The supercharger kicks in right when you start the motor. It adds power linearly throughout the rpm range. RPM goes up, boost goes up, power goes up. You'll be good.

sweet, thats good to know. I'll give them a call and see what kit they recommend. If they say I need the intercooler I will go with the air-air. For my level of power I don't think I'll need the air-water one.

Put a intercooler on it if you plan to run pump gas

Talked to tech, very helpful actually. The guy gave me a model number 1FX234 F1R1 which the F1R blower. The reason he recommended that is because I told him that down the road I will be using the blower for a dart block. He said he I just want something for this current setup the D1SC is adequate. I should have asked but I wonder if it's as simple as just changing the head units and would the entire tubing and intercooler stay the same.
The prices are pretty different. $3500 for the D1SC kit and $6100 for the F1 kit.
