I rebuilt my carburetor yesterday and it brought up a question. There was a filter screen below the needle seat. The screen was malformed and not properly filtering the fuel flow. The rebuild kit (GP Sorenson from the local parts store) did not come with a replacement. There does not appear to be a good way to place it so that it is secure.

I looked over several diagrams of this carburetor and some diagrams show the filter while others do not. I assume it's there in case of failure of the fuel filter, or if the fuel filter is bypassed. Looking for input on how to secure this filter screen, or if it is even really necessary.

I would just leave it off.
