Ok Dennis I've seen you have done the Sepentine Belt conversion on a early model 302...is it a kit or did you get the pulleys from another vehicle.
I need to know exactly what was done and how.
    Thx Rick

I just got the pullies from a late model Mustang (late 80's, early 90's) Dont know exactly where they came from because they were just lying around different garages. My top pully is actually too wide. Then once installed, set the alt to the mid range position. Then wrap a tape measurego around the pullies to get an idea of what lenght belt you need. Go to any auto store and get their belt book. It will have a breakdown of belts by width and length. I bought 3 belts. One that was a closest match to my measurements, one next size longer, and one next size shorter. This will just save you a few trips back and forth. I dont remember which one worked but I just took back the 2 that didn't.

Other than a complete 5.0 transplant, I've not seen a serpentine set up with power steering. I believe March probably has something but their stuff is high dollar.

Well I tried it today without much success...after spending 50 bucks at the junkyard for pulleys the only one that worked was the alternator pulley.
The others are so far out of alignment there is no hope.
They were off a 91 Mustang 5 liter. The crank pulley sits so far back its at least one pulley depth off and water pump pulley is 2 pulleys depths off forward.
Im probably gonna have to go with the March setup to eliminate the need for the power steering pump as a pulley.
Dennis it looks like your water pump pulley mounting base has been pressed further back towards the pump so that your alignment with the crank pulley was right. The "tit" extends at least a half inch through the mounting hole.

You might want to try looking at a lincoln with a 302. They use a 2 belt set up so maybe the pulleys are spaced diferently. I think if you use the mustang stuff you will pretty much have to use the whole alternator bracket and change water pumps because the mustangs flow opposite of your pump. I used this set up on my ranger and it seemed to work fine. I think i also used the power steering pump from the mustang and everything lined up on a old 289 so i would imagine it would work on yours if you really wanted it to.

I think I'm going to carry the V-groove pulleys with me to the junkyard and matchem up that way...if the offsets are the same I should be safe. If that dont work Jegs has the March setup for 189.00...billet aluminum. No turning back now. I have the whole front of my engine tore off now for this and some other mods I gotta get done before the Savannah meet.:D

    March Serpentine

    Ripporter,
I'm new to the boards, hopefully I can help you. I have the March serp. kit I ordered it through Summit racing. If you dont mind spending the money they are well worth every cent. Clear coater aluminum show pieces they are. To start from the beginning make sure you have the reverse rotation water pump and the timing cover that accepts the pump. Figured I'd clarify because Imade these mistakes, you probably already know.
Power steering pulley is MCH-630 74.95
Marck serp kit is MCH-2010 136.95
This kit comes w/ Alt. pul , Water pump pul, and Crank pul. Specify that you want the kit w/ the revers rotation pul. cause they accidentally sent me the standard rotation.
These would be the necesities if you want to go crazy! Igot the altenator bracket, P/S bracket, altenator fan and cap. Another 300.00 but worth it. Hope this helps. Summit # 1-800-230-3030. 74Maverick, Thom

Well I just said the He!! with it and ordered the March setup through Jegs....Alt ,water pump and Crank pulley for 207 bucks with second day air shipment...powder coated aluminum.

No power steering pump as thats the whole reason for the serpentine setup to get rid of the pump that I dont use.

I'll post some pics when Im done with the mods.

The March set up is real sweet looking and I've been thinking of adding that to the Sprint for some time. $207 is cheaper than I thought it would be. Is that just for the 3 pullies or a kit which included the alt brackets? What is the part #?

I forgot to mention for 71 Gold.
You can run the power steering with the one belt w/ the march kit. The belt goes around the crank pul, around the p/s pul, under the reverse rotation water pump pul, and then around the alt pul. Some people want to run serpentine not just to get rid of p/s but for the look of one belt. This kit makes that possible.
I wanted serpentine and the benefits of underdrive pulleys w/ the p/s. 74Maverick, Thom

Actually, I checked the March websight. The best kit to buy is Summit Part # MCH1675. These the high flow pullies and are not underdrive pullies like the 1670 set is. For street, that would be more desireable.

If the cars not an everyday driver it seems the performance series pulleys would be the way to go. No?
Either way...they are a good looking set of pulleys.
Looking at the pulleys on the Summit site I couldnt see a difference.
